What are dentures?

Dentures are removable appliances that replace your teeth and the surrounding tissues. We might recommend dentures if you have lost some or all of your permanent teeth due to trauma, decay, or extractions. 

Dentures fit comfortably around your existing teeth or rest on your gums. They are easy to care for and often last between 7 and 10 years*.  

What are the types of dentures?

At Calm Spring Dental, we offer several types of dentures, including:

Partial dentures

Partial dentures replace some of your teeth. We fasten partial dentures to your natural teeth with precision attachments or small metal clasps.

Complete dentures

Complete dentures replace all of the teeth on your upper or lower jaw. These dentures feature a metallic base, artificial pink gums, and a row of prosthetic teeth. We recommend applying an adhesive to the bottom to prevent your dentures from shifting.

What does getting dentures involve?

At Calm Spring Dental, getting dentures takes two visits.

First visit

Before recommending dentures, we review your dental records, conduct an oral exam, and ask about your goals. If you are missing several permanent teeth, we move forward with treatment. 

First, we take digital impressions of your mouth and send them to a nearby lab that designs your custom dentures.

Second visit

About a week later, when the lab finishes the dentures, you return to the office. We have you try the dentures on and make adjustments to ensure a perfect fit. Then, we explain how to clean and care for them.

How do I care for my dentures?

Caring for dentures is easy. To ensure your dentures stay in optimal condition, we recommend rinsing them in cool tap water several times a day, gently brushing them with a soft-bristle toothbrush in the evenings, and soaking them in a cleaning solution overnight.

What should I do if I experience problems with my dentures?

We recommend scheduling a checkup at Calm Spring Dental if you experience any of the following issues:

• Chips or cracks in the dentures
• Difficulty chewing
• Mouth sores
• Changes in your speech pattern

You should also contact us if you notice a bad odor coming from your dentures.
